Back Forty

Set on the back half of a large property, the Back House opens itself to the southern and western views of the Front Range and Flatirons of Boulder. The wide open, stretched form seeks to enhance a sense of openness, to erase the indoor and outdoor boundary, to take advantage of the broad back yard. Natural materials of stone and wood are integrated with metal exterior cladding and steel details. This home is a pair with the “Pool House” (which serves as the guest home on the property), note the similarity of stone and interior finish, of gable roofs and modern agricultural forms between the projects. The pumpkin patch is not for effect — it’s absolutely purposeful and intended to produce huge pumpkins for competition!
