The Longcut
A home designed with the “long cut” in mind: a long and beautiful ramp from the main to the upper level. Designed for a lifetime of accessibility and also in such a way as you may never notice it, this home is profoundly unique. Everyone will use the ramp - it’s the only way up, no stairs. The site called for a southwesterly orientation, and the house opens to the views and sunshine on offer in that direction. On the street side the house sits low and wide and mysteriously private. A screen of windows at the entry invites visitors and friends to drop in. On the exterior warm tactile wood was chosen at ‘people level’ and maintenance-averse variegated metal standing seam siding on the harder to reach upper walls.
