The Ledge House

A new home on a steep site a stone’s throw from Boulder.

Our new favorite, this one has some attitude. The steep site provided the drama, and we’ve brought the concrete, steel, wood, and glass. There are not many ‘easy’ lots to build on in the foothills immediately adjacent to the city proper. This lot, which features an access road and a half-complete 80’s driveway, presented an ‘easier than most’ opportunity. Our strategy is simple: build a stout concrete base ( garage / mechanical / shop / storage / bonus) to hold back the hill and provide a platform above for an amazing main level with views of east Boulder and push into the hillside just enough to provide real and useful exterior space. Up top throw in a main bedroom suite with a balcony. Standing seam metal siding wraps the main level form, a sleek (non-combustible) rhythmic (variegated panel widths) contrast to the raw concrete below. Inside we’re working for warmth and to ‘cozy it up’, with wood details, a fireplace, and human-scaled living spaces - a home not a museum. There’s a bunch more, we could go on. Check the renderings for now, and check back in the future as we assemble the team to build it. Looking forward to this one.
