Telhado
A simple gable folded roof form with an ‘L’ shaped plan, Telhado (‘roof’ en portuguese) is a humble abode at first glance. The long wide eaves and the simple wide entry porch roof strike a broad and confident street stance. A band of clerestory windows beneath the eaves seeks to double down on the horizontal low roofline. People keep describing it as ‘zen’. We like that. Where it counts, in the back and facing the Flatirons, we bring the big glass for views and southern sun. The architecture genuflects to the rear with low proportions and broad decks and patios. The kitchen / dining / living rooms are combined, and open via large sliding doors onto a large deck which falls right into the landscape.
We’ve are grateful for this second opportunity to design a new home on the same lot we’ve design for in the past. See also ‘Newlands’ for our first crack at it. Same big lot with a new take for our an amazing young family.
